All you need is Love ❤
Love is all you need ❤

In this movie I was positively overwhelmed because I didn’t know what I should love first: the black humor, the ingenious Beatles songs or the wonderful lead actor Himesh Patel. The movie has given me more than just good entertainment: it has filled me with a lot of love and how the Beatles sang so aptly: All you need is Love ❤
After watching the trailer, I didn’t really know what to think about the plot. A world where nobody knows the Beatles and the unsuccessful musician Jack, being the only person who remembers them, makes a great career for himself with their songs. Can this absurd plot work successfully in a film? For many people that seems too far off the beaten path.
Especially funny is to imagine how today’s film industry would deal with the Beatles songs. Instead of „Hey Jude“ for example Ed Sheeran, brilliantly playing himself, suggests singing the song better with „Hey Dude“ because it’s more contemporary. Would the Beatles songs still be able to move the youth? There are so many moments that are at first glance not funny, but you still have to laugh heartily. For example, when Ed Sheeran and Jack start a songwriting competition after their show together, and the moment comes when Jack starts performing the Beatles song „The Long and Winding Road“ as his own creation written in 10 minutes, you know that nobody has a chance to win against this song. Imagining how demoralized Ed Sheeran is going to be makes you laugh in advance. Also very funny is the role of his later manager. She tells him honestly from the point of view of the music industry, that he looks terrible. But his genial songwriting compensates that. She is very tough with Jack because she wants to make a lot of money. Her scenes together with the soft-hearted Jack are hilarious.
Jack is living his dreams but it doesn’t really satisfy him. Because the most important thing is still missing: true love. As a star, he can’t be with the woman he loves. And he is always reminded that without the Beatles songs he would still be an unsuccessful musician. So he wants to reveal the truth.
I was very thankful that the Indian origin of Himesh Patel is so obvious. I couldn’t imagine a better actor who could endure life’s troubles with such patience. He sang the songs so soulfully, he was perfect. And I loved to watch his true love Ellie, played by Lily James. I have been a big fan of her since Mamma Mia!.
It feels so good to be showered with the Beatle’s songs for a whole movie and to accompany Jack on the journey while remembering all the lyrics to the songs.
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire / Trainspotting) and screenwriter Richard Curtis (Actually … Love / Notting Hill) have created a lovable musical comedy and I’m happy to say: it’s definitely not an embarrassingly cheesy RomCom.
As a Beatles fan I will definitely watch the movie again. I can celebrate the Beatles and laugh heartily and sympathize with the main character. Love is all you need.
